New York is known to be the city that never sleeps. Why is it called that? It’s because businesses run day and day out. In business, once you sleep, you lose a lot of money. This is true most especially if you’re just starting your own business. You can’t sleep. Because when you sleep that’s when you are most vulnerable.
Sun Tzu said, “A soldier’s spirit is keenest in the morning; by noonday it begins to flag; and in the evening, his mind is bent only on returning to camp”. So, what is the strategically minded general to do? Sun Tzu spells this one out: “A clever general, therefore, avoids an army when its spirit is keen, but attacks it when it is sluggish and inclined to return to camp”. Catch your enemy sleeping, and you can dictate the terms of the engagement because you will be the only one of the two of you who is prepared for it.
How will you catch your adversary sleeping? Be creative and think outside the box. You may have to be the one to put him to sleep by making him think you don’t pose a threat. Your advantage will come from your adversary’s complacency. He must truly believe that he holds the upper hand in the game, if he even recognizes it as a “game” at all. A complacent, sleeping adversary has defeated himself already.
